COLOR KNIFE PAINTINGS

Ned on guitar, quick knife study, 5/30/21, acrylic on ragboard 8x12”, Elizabeth Lisa Petrulis
Ned on guitar, a loosely knife-applied portrait of a white-haired guitar player. This is my husband, Ned Tennis, with an unruly covid hair. The painting was used on the album cover of “son of Nedtones” (Vol. 3).

COVID-19 isolation put a magnifier our relationships with animal companions.

During this time painting creatures in my studio two things bubbled to the surface:
a simmering desire to loosen up,
and a sudden hunger for color.     I mean full color!

In order to encourage a looser style I chose a painting knife instead of a brush. And later, needing intensified enforcement, I troweled on the primer to texture the painting ground as well.
