To lick was one of Sadie’s self appointed duties. Sadie took it upon herself to groom the other dogs, particularly in the ears.  Mookie loved ear cleanings. I enjoyed the visual counterpoint.

This composition is an example of my interest in positive/negative. How the placement of shapes of objects creates interesting shapes of the background and how these two elements interact.

Mookie Wilson in snow was a typical scene. This quickly brushed portrait is really a precursor to the Dog Studies series. It was the beginning of my use of black and white.

Mookie had a thick coat and was at home in snow. He loved to eat it, even scooping it up as he ran.
